Ripple focused on Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) is compliant with ISO 20022 through its RippleNet platform and became a member of the ISO standards body in May 2020. This membership allows RippleNet to integrate with financial institutions for cross-border transactions.
This integration is done using a standardized API compliant to ISO 20022’s messaging framework!
However, XRP is a digital asset running on the XRP Ledger which isn't ISO 20022 compliant because it's a digital asset. The standard applies to messaging protocols for financial transactions, not digital assets.
Ripple’s CTO, David Schwartz, has clarified that “XRP has nothing to do with ISO 20022,” emphasizing that XRP is a digital asset, not a messaging system.
